Public relations intern (paid), in internal communication. Intern will assist with writing and editing stories to inform and inspire Providence employees. Will also assist with posting stories to the intranet and, possibly, putting together email newsletters. Skills learned or developed will include interviewing, writing and editing; website posting and management; interpersonal communication; project management; and photo coordination, editing and archiving. May also be able to observe or assist with communication measurement and crisis communication.
This internship is paid on an hourly basis and limited to 240 hours, Jan. 16-March 31. Interns work less than 20 hours a week, 2-4 days a week during business hours.
Applicants should be senior-level college or university students. Strong writing and communication skills are required, with experience in news writing preferred. Preference is given to applicants who are in the first generation of their families to attend college.
Providence Health & Services is the largest not-for-profit health care system on the West Coast. The internship’s preceptor, Julie Solomon Howard, has 15 years of experience in public relations for health care and not-for-profit organizations. Julie is the senior manager of internal communication for Providence’s Oregon Region, where she oversees communication strategy for 21,500 employees.
