Colby Reade, APR, Selected For 2014 PRSA’s New Professional Award of Excellence
PRSA to Honor Reade, Newly Accredited Member of the Organization, at October 16 Spotlight Awards Ceremony in Portland
Portland, Ore. – Colby Reade, APR, is the 2014 New Professional Award of Excellence recipient, presented by the Public Relations Society of America’s (PRSA) Portland Metro Chapter. Reade will be honored at the PRSA Spotlight Awards, held on Thursday, Oct. 16 from 5:30-9:30 p.m. at LeftBank Annex, 101 N. Weidler St., Portland, Ore. The New Professional Award of Excellence honors a chapter member who has entered the field of public relations within the past five years. The award is presented to a professional who has demonstrated his or her commitment to advancing public relations through career achievements, volunteerism, and the highest standards of professionalism. The chapter’s Awards of Distinction Committee reviews nominations for the New Professional Award of Excellence based on the award criteria and guidelines. Reade is an Account Manager at The Hoffman Agency in Vancouver, Wash., where he works on the Alcatel Lucent account and supports the company’s new business efforts. He was previously at Waggener Edstrom Communications, where he worked on global communications for brands such as Windows, Windows Phone, SkyDrive/OneDrive and Outlook.com. Prior to his time at Waggener Edstrom Communications, he was a reporter, editor and news anchor for KXL Radio.
Reade is a member of the PRSA Portland Metro Chapter’s Board of Directors, acting as Vice President of Member Communications. He has also lent his communications skills to a number of Portland area nonprofits, volunteering with groups such as SMART (Start Making a Reader Today), Willamette Valley Development Officers (WVDO), and Oregon Dog Rescue.
“Receiving this award is a huge honor for me,” said Reade. “I consider myself incredibly lucky, because I’ve been surrounded by a lot of really smart, dedicated professionals who have served as mentors, coaches and guides as I’ve launched my career in public relations. To be nominated by some of those folks, and then to be recognized by the esteemed panel of judges, is such a validation of the work I’ve done as well as an encouraging indicator that I’m on the right path for the future.”

Serving 240 public relations professionals in Oregon and Southwest Washington, the chapter supports lifelong professional development and honors excellence in public relations.
More than one-fifth of Portland Metro Chapter members have earned Accreditation in Public Relations (APR), the profession’s only national post-graduate certification program. Six chapter members have been elected to the PRSA College of Fellows, considered the pinnacle of a professional career.
